The LRZ relies on certificates and partnerships for quality management and the security of data and information.
Viruses and spam on the network, external attacks on storage and other technical resources or data loss caused by application errors: Research and administrative data are valuable and are subject to certain risks. Users of LRZ services can count on our highly reliable services and rest assured that their data and files are well secured with us: That is why we have developed transparent, traceable processes that we regularly have certified by external bodies in accordance with the ISO/IEC standard. And because many different people come up with more ideas and better strategies against spam, viruses and hacking, we are developing IT security strategies together with universities and the Digitalverbund Bayern.
From two-factor authentication and the encryption of data and e-mails to firewalls and virtual private networks (VPN): The LRZ has a wide range of options when it comes to securely storing files or researching and communicating on the Munich Scientific Network (MWN). The following is a list of initial services and technologies with which you can start your own IT security concept:
Increasing data security and making the organisation more resilient: This is an important incentive at LRZ and that is why we subject our work processes and documentation to regular scrutiny. This is how we secure certification for information security in accordance with ISO/IEC standard 27001, and consequently users and customers alike feel confident that the LRZ will keep their files and information secure. In the event of technical issues or external attacks, defined processes also ensure that employees are able to quickly protect networks and systems and restore lost data where necessary. Our specialists and experts test and run through possible emergency scenarios on a regular basis.
We are constantly adapting our services, consultations and, above all, our technical resources to meet the requirements and security needs of our users: Your IT and data are very important to us!
Research results can improve services enormously. That is why the IT systems of universities and scientific institutions are attacked frequently. In 2022, the LRZ, in collaboration with the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences and the University of Augsburg, launched the inter-university IT services for information security (HITS IS), which are now established as a part of the Digitalverbund Bayern. We develop and plan strategies for IT security and data protection together and, in particular, develop necessary, cross-university IT services (HITS): for example, we support the analysis of security incidents, scan for vulnerabilities, identify potential points of attack, or provide security awareness training for staff.
The team led by Stefan Metzger, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at the LRZ, works closely with the Digitalverbund Bayern and on behalf of the inter-university IT services (HITS). You will therefore also find competent advice on all questions relating to IT security technology and data security.
