BayernShare is offered at two locations, the LRZ in Garching (LRZ Sync+Share) and the RRZE in Erlangen (FAUBox).
With BayernShare you can store your data and documents conveniently, securely and reliably at one of the two data centers and keep them simultaneously on multiple devices (desktop, laptop, tablet, smart phone) at the same level (sync) and accessible worldwide. You can also share and exchange your data with other people worldwide (share). BayernShare greatly simplifies cross-organisational, interdisciplinary and cooperative work. The BayernShare service is based on the PowerFolder software from a German company. Data protection is given by German and European law.
Scope of Services and Service Specifics
Provision of storage
The LRZ provides the necessary storage centrally at the data center in Garching. Each account that is registered as authorised to use the system is allocated 50 GiB storage space by default. A larger amount of storage can be allocated on request.
On the system side, the quality of the storage corresponds to that of the Premium class of Cloud Storage.
By default, up to 5 different versions of a file are stored.
Access variants
In order to use the full functionality of the service, the installation of a client / app is required. The client can be downloaded from the web pages of LRZ. The client is required especially if you want to use the synchronization functionality.
If you "only" want to share data with other people or send files via link, the intuitive web interface is usually sufficient.
The coordinated handling of the various access possibilities by different (mobile) devices and different people is the responsibility of the users.
Authorization and authentication
- LDAP:
Facilities that are registered in the central identity management system of the LRZ (IDM) or for which there is an interface to the IDM are connected via LDAP. - Shibboleth:
For all other facilities, an appropriately configured identity provider (IdP) with ECP (Enhanced Client or Proxy) is a necessary prerequisite.
Support, Service Level
The using institution independently takes over the 1st level support. The service desk of the LRZ is available as 2nd level support. Stubborn problem cases are passed on to the 3rd level support (manufacturer) if necessary.
Data protection and security
The service LRZ Sync+Share is based on the software PowerFolder, which is developed and distributed by a German company. The data protection is guaranteed according to German and European law. All server-side data is stored on systems within the LRZ.

Requirements
User guidelines
The service-specific guidelines for the use of the Munich science network (in German) and for the service Sync+Share must be observed.
User / Customers
In principle, all Bavarian colleges and universities (user classes (1) and (2)) are authorised to use the service. The service is also offered at the RRZE in Erlangen (FAUBox). Interested institutions can thus choose the provider that is more suitable for them (usually the regionally more conveniently located computer centre).
Provided that a suitable identity management connection is available, the service can also be used by institutions in user classes (3) and (4).
Fees
The storage quota is limited to 50 GiB per identifier and is included in the price. A larger amount can be allocated to the end user on request. The increase must be authorised or ordered by the service desk of the customer facility. If the average utilisation of all users of a facility exceeds 10 GiB, the additional storage used will be billed on the basis of the prices for the ‘Cloud Storage’ service of the ‘Premium’ storage class.
Charges are only incurred for registered users with their own storage quota. No fees are charged for guests invited by the user.
The invoice is issued at the beginning of the following year for the previous year. The calculation basis is the number of registered users without invited guests at the end of each month within the billing year. The above fee rate is calculated for them.
The fees are reviewed annually and adjusted if necessary.
