For an event (meeting, congress, conference, workshop etc.) in the area of the MWN, network accesses can be set up by the LRZ if necessary, so that (external) participants can use the internet and the MWN. For events whose participants come purely from the academic-scientific environment, it is recommended to use the "eduroam service", which is available free of charge at all locations of the Munich Science Network (http://www.lrz.de/services/netz/wlan/eduroam/). For events with few participants, it is also possible to have WLAN guest IDs set up via the master user instead of a conference network (see https://doku.lrz.de/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=27394051). Here, each of the guests receives an individual, time-limited guest ID with which the WLAN can be used. Furthermore the LRZ supports the BayernWLAN initiative (https://www.lrz.de/services/netz/wlan/bayernwlan/), i.e. the open network @BayernWLAN is available at many locations in the MWN.
Internet access is activated for events. In principle, access is possible via fixed network outlets (100 MBit/s LAN) as well as via wireless access (WLAN according to IEEE 802.11g/n/a/ac). The feasibility depends on the existing infrastructure; not all buildings and rooms offer this possibility.
During the event, a fixed IP address network will be available at the activated data outlets and/or WLAN access points (by default). This is assigned via DHCP. In the event of excessive data traffic (e.g. due to a virus-infected computer), access for this computer will be blocked; the restrictions of the LRZ-Gateway Secomat apply.
When accessing via WLAN, the SSID "mwn-events" with WPA2 encryption must be used. For this purpose, the organizer will receive an event name and a password which must be used to log on to the conference topics.
A sheet with information on network access should be distributed to the participants of the event.
The current requirements must be coordinated with the LRZ in good time (at least 4 weeks in advance). Therefore the registration form has to be filled in, see https://wlan.lrz.de/conferences/new/.
The service can only be offered in buildings in which the MWN is available with structured cabling and WLAN (https://monitoring.mwn.de/maps/wlan/).
The following fees apply when using this service:
Fees for setting up internet access during the event. These fees are a one-off charge and include the following services
→ Discussion with the user regarding the configuration for the event
→ Configuration of the network
→ Response time of 1 hour in the event of faults
→ Telephone counselling in the event of start-up difficulties
Usage fee
→ Use of the conference WLAN is charged per registered device and per conference day. A conference participant may also be able to use several devices during the conference. The use of eduroam for visitors from other universities or research institutions is free of charge.
