Gitlab

Git is a distributed version management software for files. It enables easy collaboration with several people on a project, but also version management, for example for writing scientific texts or final and doctoral theses with LaTeX or XML or for software development.

Scope of Services and Service Specifics

The LRZ offers with GitLab a web-based service for the administration of Git repositories. Besides the actual repositories GitLab provides tools like wikis and an issue tracker. With "Merge Requests" there is a means to perform code reviews together and transparently.

Service Parameter

The main LRZ GitLab instance (https://gitlab.lrz.de) may only be used for instructional-use and non-commercial academic research. This limitation comes from the conditions of the GitLab Education License.

For IT professional use, institutional administration and further use cases LRZ maintains a separate GitLab instance with the Community Edition license (https://gitlab-ce.lrz.de).

Requirements

Automatic provisioning of GitLab permissions for all accounts of a customer applies only to customers with IDM coupling. Only for the use of the GitLab service, no IDM coupling is set up. For customers of Nutzerklasse 2 there is always the possibility to apply for SIM projects with GitLab quota and to manage the accounts via master users.
