Scope of Services and Service Specifics

The following activities and services are associated with the MWN-PC offer:

  • Directory integration of the PC workstations into the Active Directory "MWN-ADS".
  • Identity Management (IDM): Integration of the customer's employee or user data into the LRZ user administration, if possible by connecting the LRZ user administration to IDM systems at the customer.
  • Provision: Initial installation of the operating system from workstation PCs to distribution and maintenance of an application portfolio individually adapted to the customer.
  • Supported operating systems: Windows 10 / 11 Professional / Education / Enterprise in the languages German and English.
  • Application software: Initial installation and maintenance (patches, updates) of applications are possible through the LRZ. The LRZ defines a list of mostly security-critical applications, which are regularly updated without further action of the customer. Other applications, mostly requiring a license, are only updated in agreement with the customer.
  • Special software: the packaging and distribution of special applications is possible and is charged according to hourly and daily rates.
  • Optional file services: Standard LRZ file services (Premium class cloud storage) for Windows PCs for use as individualized home directories or as storage systems for project work with fine-grained access rights control.
  • Print: Integration of network printers at the customer's site into MWN-ADS, print servers and connection to workstation PCs with automated driver installation for Postscript printers. Other printers are only supported on request. Optional: a service for print cost accounting is available.
  • Security: Integration of the PC workstations in management concepts for automated distribution of patches and updating of anti-virus software.
  • Management Delegation: Activities in the Active Directory for managing the customer infrastructure, from object management to group policies, can be carried out by the customer with delegated rights. Access rights control for file storage systems must also be carried out by the customer.
  • Monitoring: Monitoring of the security status (patches, virus scanner, password guessing) and the disk space quota.
  • Instruction: for the on-site support.

Terms of Use

The service-specific guidelines for the use of the Munich Scientific Network and the MWN-PC service must be followed.

Terms of use

The customer provides the on-site support capacity, i.e. 1st level support for end users and two contact persons (including representation) as interface to the LRZ service managers.

Only client hardware with comprehensive driver supply by the manufacturer can be connected to the Life Cycle Management. The procurement of the suitable driver software is the responsibility of the customer.

Obligation of the customer to cooperate

MWN-PC: the on-site support of the customer is responsible for the support of the workplace PCs in the areas

  • software installation and update
  • Error analysis and correction (1st level support)
  • Customer service
  • Grouping of users and, if necessary, assignment of access rights for end users
  • Support of e.g. filing systems for project work with fine-grained rights assignment

The correct licensing of the client systems is the sole responsibility of the client.

In case of violation of the duty of care the LRZ reserves the right to remove computer accounts from the domain.

Minimum number of clients

The minimum number of managed clients to set up a organisational unit is 50.

Existing customers are free of this minimum number.

User guideline

The service-specific guidelines for the use of the Munich Science Network https://www.lrz.de/wir/regelwerk/richtlinien_mwn/ and the service MWN-PC must be observed.

license costs

The correct licensing of the client systems with regard to operating system, client access licenses for Windows servers and applications is the sole responsibility of the customer and must be carried out by the customer in a proper manner.

For this service the following licenses are required per client:

  • 1x Windows Server CAL
  • 1x Windows MECM client management license

The licenses can be purchased via the LRZ.

The LRZ bears the costs for licensing the necessary server systems.

This service is made available to user classes 1, 2 and 3. The following fees are to be paid by the individual user classes:

Fees

Service usage is charged according to the applicable fee rates (prices per year and device, excluding licence costs). Initial project expenses may be invoiced on a time and material basis after approval by the customer organisation.

  • MWN-PC: X = number of registered systems in Jamf Pro
  • the fee calculated in this way is per unit and year
  • a pro rata calculation of the fee per unit and month is made with 4 decimal places
