The LRZ offers institutions the use of a virtual server via a load balancing system. Load balancers are able to distribute traffic via a service address to different server systems. They allow to distribute the arising load (load balancing) but also to increase the availability by increasing the redundancy. By using several virtual machines behind an SLB it is possible, for example, to carry out software updates on the machines without service interruptions.
The SLB service includes an IPv4 and an IPv6 address and the switching of http (port 80) and https (port 443) traffic.

Set-up times:
The configuration of the SLB and changes in the configuration are carried out exclusively by the LRZ. Service requests to change the configuration must be sent to the service desk.
Reporting: A standard report on your service will be created monthly for the users.
To use the SLB, the following prerequisites must be met:
Only institutions that are connected to the MWN can use this service.
The use of this service incurs
Fees for setting up the SLB. These fees are a one-off charge and include the following services
→ Creation of an architecture concept for the operation of the service behind the SLB
→ Configuring the network for the use of the service behind the SLB
→ Setting up a pool with two nodes as standard
→ Set up a maintenance page according to the customer's specifications
Fees for ongoing operation. These fees are charged annually and include the following services
→ Maintenance of the SLB (software and hardware maintenance)
→ Advice for users
