Training at LRZ

IT specialists have good future prospects in the IT sector. You will familiarise yourself with innovative technologies and various areas of responsibility during your training at LRZ.

Do your friends ask you for advice on notebooks or online tools? Do you already code or are you interested in getting into coding? Then we need to meet you: The LRZ trains IT specialists and is looking for people with A-Levels, GCSEs and comparable school-leaving qualifications or students who would prefer to focus on practical work. Here you will learn to configure work environments, set up servers, install networks and write smaller programmes all by yourself. Can we count on you?

Six reasons to train at LRZ

  • In our modern, well-equipped environment, you will get to know a wide variety of working models: agile approaches as well as mobile working.

  • At LRZ, you will work with various systems and state-of-the-art technology and gain insights into various areas of responsibility.

  • A wide variety of research projects: The LRZ gives you plenty of opportunities to take on exciting and meaningful projects and develop your own skills.

  • Growth and prospects: Once you have completed your training, chances are high you can continue working with us, study alongside your job or gain further qualifications with e.g. taking certificates.

  • A secure job with transparent payment scheme: We need IT specialists, pay them in accordance with collective agreements and create prospects that go beyond training.

  • #WeareLRZ, #weareTeam: LRZ colleagues create a diverse, friendly working environment, focus on team spirit and support you in your learning. #Jointheteam.

  • Compared to experiences of my peers at the vocational school, the content of the LRZ course was very varied; I got to learn about more operating systems, programmes and technologies than anyone else in my class.

Training FAQs

  • In coordination with the vocational schools, your training to become an IT specialist starts in September of each year.

  • Towards the end of the year, in November before the start of training, the advertisement is published and the official application period begins. Interviews start around the turn of the year, from mid-January.

  • Absolutely – provided that you’re interested in IT and technology. Deciding between a career or a degree programme is difficult. After all, not everyone is suited to theoretical studies. You will build a good foundation for your future with a well-rounded LRZ qualification as an IT specialist.

  • As the application period starts in the November prior to the course start date and therefore prior to you getting your exam results, we only need your last two school reports at the time you submit your application to give us an idea of your strengths. However, please note that you will need to send us a copy of your final exam results by the time the course starts.

  • Sadly not. If you are interested, we can arrange a meeting during the application process. Visits by your whole class to the LRZ are also possible. Or you can get to know us at a careers fair near you.

    • A strong cover letter in which you tell us about yourself and explain why you want to become an IT specialist and study at LRZ.
    • A CV that doesn’t just include your school achievements and hobbies, but also highlights your work experience and commitment
    • Copies of your last two school reports
    • Proof of your work experience placements and other skills (e.g. languages such as German and English)
  • We will focus on your grades in German, English, Maths, and IT in particular, working under the assumption that you are interested in IT and technology and these subjects are important to you. That said, we do not expect top grades. We prefer you to show us why you are interested in IT, that you like problem solving, and that you can work and enjoy working independently as well as part of a team.

  • We start by collecting applications, selecting candidates and inviting them to attend an interview. This starts with a test lasting approx. 30 minutes in which we ask about what you learned in school and your other skills. You will then take part in an interview with the training coordinators in which we will discuss your interests and profile, and which gives you the opportunity to ask us any questions you might have. We generally let all applicants know whether they have secured a course place.
