Girls' Day 2013 am Leibniz-Rechenzentrum

Das Leibniz-Rechenzentrum beteiligt sich in diesem Jahr wieder am Girls' Day. Am 25. April 2013 können technikinteressierte Mädchen von der 5. bis zur 8. Klasse das Arbeitsumfeld eines Hochschulrechenzentrums kennenlernen und bei uns eine der beiden Veranstaltungen besuchen:

  • Webseiten erstellen mit HTML

ODER

  • Computer verstehen mit Linux

Für beide Veranstaltungen ist eine Online-Anmeldung unter http://www.girls-day.de/ notwendig.

Sophos Enterprise Console 5.2 erschienen

Die neue Sophos Enterprise Console 5.2 steht zum Download bereit. Die Console benötigen Administratoren, die selbst die Verteilung der Anti Virensoftware von Sophos innerhalb Ihrer Einrichtung steuern wollen. Die Console kann vom Sophos-Download Bereich heruntergeladen werden.

Zentrale Systeme und Grid Computing

PRACE Calls:

PRACE Preparatory Access Call for Tier-0

Preparatory access is intended for testing and developing codes in  order to prepare applications for PRACE Tier-0 project access. In  particular, we would like to draw your attention to the Preparatory  Access Type C which includes code development with support from PRACE  experts. The Preparatory Access Call is a rolling call, researchers can apply  for access all year. There are no closing dates, proposals will be  reviewed every third month. The next cutoff date is March 1st, 2013, 11:00 CET.
 
LRZ invites all interested scientists, whose projects fit the criteria  of the PRACE call to submit their projects. The criteria for the PRACE  Calls as well as complete information on the PRACE machines, how to  apply and on the PRACE peer review process can be found at http://www.prace-ri.eu/

PRACE 7th call for proposals

The 7th Call is open to academia and industry under specific mandatory  conditions including that access is devoted solely for open R&D  research purposes. Please carefully check the full eligibility criteria  listed in the text of the call for proposals.

All applications   whether submitted by academia or by commercial companies will be evaluated against the highest peer-review standards. Applications must demonstrate scientific excellence, include  elements of novelty, transformative aspects and have a recognised  scientific impact.

The PRACE 7th Call for Proposals can be found on the PRACE website:

It will be closed on March 26, noon (12:00 CET Brussels time). DO NOT  WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE! No late submission is accepted.

Keep in mind the following important dates related to this Call:

  • Opening date: February 13, 2013
  • Closing date: March 26, 12:00 CET   noon - Brussels time (compulsory deadline)
  • Allocation for 12 months
  • Starting date of awarded proposals: September 3, 2012

European Globus Community Forum (EGCF) 2013

The EGCF annual conference will take place in Manchester, United Kingdom on April 8th, 2013. It is organized by the Initiative for Globus in Europe (IGE) and co-located with the Community Forum of the European Grid Infrastructure (EGI).

If you are a European Globus user, this is the must-attend event of the year! There is no better forum to connect with European Globus users and get your questions answered by experts from Europe and the US.

The agenda (http://www.egcf.eu/egcf-2013/) is under preparation and the organisers invite submissions for abstracts for individual presentations.

GlobusWORLD 2013

We would like to invite you to the year’s biggest gathering of the Globus community: GlobusWORLD. This year’s conference looks to be the biggest and most engaging yet.
 
The event will take place April 16-18, 2013, on the campus of Argonne National Laboratory, near Chicago. GlobusWORLD offers more than two days of presentations, tutorials, and networking opportunities for users, developers, and resource owners.
 
Call for Proposals
Are you a Globus Online user or resource administrator with a data transfer tale to tell? Have you solved a knotty problem using Globus, or built something great using the Globus Toolkit? Send us your story, and you could be a part of the GlobusWORLD program.
 
More information on submitting a proposal is available here. The deadline to submit is Feb. 22.
 
Registration for GlobusWORLD will open in January. Keep an eye on globusworld.org for further updates, and feel free to email the Globus Team with any questions.

Experienced Researcher in the area of information visualisation

The Leibniz-Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) is the computer centre for Munich's universities and for the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities. It takes care of the communication network in Munich, connecting more than 200 buildings and campus areas in the Munich region, it offers a variety of data services, and it provides high-end computing facilities for the scientific community in Germany and beyond. LRZ operates one of the most powerful and energy efficient high performance computing systems in Europe. The new high-end system (SuperMUC) has a peak performance of 3 PetaFlop/s and contains more than 155,000 cores. Additional Linux-clusters and visualization systems supplement it.

In February 2013 the LRZ joined a European Project (Marie-Curie ITN) – Mr.SymBioMath (www.mrsymbiomath.eu) which is focused on the problem domain of Comparative Genomics. The contribution of the LRZ in the context of this project is concentrated in the area of Information Visualisation. In order to support this project and to develop visualisation solutions we are looking for an:

Experienced Researcher

The LRZ has a vacancy for an Experienced Researcher funded with full employee benefits for a period of 24 months. Applications will be accepted until March 31, 2013.

Your field of work will be:

  • Research in the domain of information visualisation for VR and mobile devices
  • Development of software solutions from the area of information visualisation

You should have experience in the following areas:

  • Knowledge in the area of information visualisation
  • Programming experience in C or C++
  • Basic knowledge of OpenGL or scene graph programming
  • Basic knowledge in computer graphics
  • Basic knowledge in the domain of mobile devices
  • Interest in VR and HCI
  • Interest in developing own solutions

The researcher may not have resided or carried out his/her main activity in the Federal Republic of Germany for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her appointment. Short stays such as holidays are not taken into account.

Das Leibniz-Rechenzentrum ist gemeinsames wissenschaftliches Rechenzentrum der Münchner Universitäten  sowie europäisches Höchstleistungsrechenzentrum, das den zurzeit schnellsten Rechner Europas betreibt. Die am  Rechenzentrum gespeicherte, verteilt genutzte Datenmenge wächst schnell. Für die Nutzer seiner Storage Cloud stellt das LRZ verschiedene Speicher-, Archiv- und Backupdienste bereit. Zur Entwicklung von web-basierten Frontends für eine mandantenfähige Administration dieser und anderer Ressourcen suchen wir

eine(n) Mitarbeiter(in)
mit Hochschulabschluss in Informatik oder einem verwandten Fachgebiet.

Wir erwarten von Ihnen:

  • Gute Kenntnisse in HTML
  • Gute Kenntnisse in Perl, JavaScript,
  • Team- und Kommunikationsfähigkeit ebenso wie
  • Fähigkeit zum selbständigen Arbeiten.
