Öffnungszeiten des LRZ-Gebäudes am Faschingsdienstag
Das LRZ-Gebäude wird am Faschingsdienstag, den 12.02.2013, bereits um 12 Uhr geschlossen.
Der Betrieb in den Nutzerräumen und -anlaufstellen endet jeweils bereits eine Viertelstunde vorher. Dazu gehören die Räume im Erdgeschoss (PC-/CAD-/Scannerbereiche), die Präsenzberatung und das Benutzersekretariat.
Auch für Anlieferungen und Kurierdienste ist das Haus geschlossen.
Am LRZ abzugebende Geräte: Lightwave-Komponenten
Am LRZ werden folgende Geräte an berechtigte Einrichtungen aus dem Hochschulbereich oder an andere Behörden gegen Abholung kostenlos abgegeben:
2 x Video Display Extension System der Firma Lightwave Communications zur Übertragung von analogen Videosignalen über Distanzen von bis zu ca. 1 km, Typ VDE 200 Model 350 (bestehend aus Transmitter, Receiver und Audio Extension mit Personality Modul für SGI) ohne Glasfaserkabel.
Die Geräte sind funktionsfähig.

Es ist eine neue Ausgabe des Gauss-Allianz-Infobriefs erhältlich, den Sie auch abonnieren können.
Gauss Call #9 for Large-Scale Projects
Large-scale projects and highly scalable parallel applications are characterised by large computing time requirements, not only for short time frames, but often for longer time periods. Projects are classified as Large-Scale , if they require, in general, more than 2% of the potentially available core cycles for GCS in one year on a member centre s high-end system, i.e.
- more than 36 Mill. core-hours per year at JSC (IBM Blue Gene/Q)
- more than 20 Mill. core-hours per year at LRZ (IBM iDataPlex SuperMUC)
- more than 16 Mill. core-hours per year at HLRS (Cray HERMIT Step 1).
For these large-scale projects a competitive review and resource allocation process is established by the GCS. Requests for resources below these limits will be accepted by the individual member centres.
Requests above these limits will be handed over to GCS, handled according to the joint procedures, and will be reviewed in a national context.
A "Call for Large-Scale Projects" is published by the Gauss Centre twice a year. Dates for closure of calls are usually at the end of winter and at the end of summer of each year.
Eligible are applications from German universities and publicly funded German research institutions, e.g., Max-Planck Society, and Helmholtz Association.
The deadline for the current call is: 28 February 2013, 17:00.

European Globus Community Forum (EGCF) 2013
The EGCF annual conference will take place in Manchester, United Kingdom on April 8th, 2013. It is organized by the Initiative for Globus in Europe (IGE) and co-located with the Community Forum of the European Grid Infrastructure (EGI).
If you are a European Globus user, this is the must-attend event of the year! There is no better forum to connect with European Globus users and get your questions answered by experts from Europe and the US.
The agenda (http://www.egcf.eu/egcf-2013/) is under preparation and the organisers invite submissions for abstracts for individual presentations. If you would like to participate as a speaker, please send a title and a brief abstract by February 28th, 2013 at the latest.

EGI Community Forum 2013
The EGI Community Forum 2013 will take place at the University Place conference centre in Manchester, United Kingdom between 8-12 April 2013. Online registration is OPEN!GlobusWORLD 2013
We would like to invite you to the year’s biggest gathering of the Globus community: GlobusWORLD. This year’s conference looks to be the biggest and most engaging yet.
The event will take place April 16-18, 2013, on the campus of Argonne National Laboratory, near Chicago. GlobusWORLD offers more than two days of presentations, tutorials, and networking opportunities for users, developers, and resource owners.
Call for Proposals
Are you a Globus Online user or resource administrator with a data transfer tale to tell? Have you solved a knotty problem using Globus, or built something great using the Globus Toolkit? Send us your story, and you could be a part of the GlobusWORLD program.
More information on submitting a proposal is available here. The deadline to submit is Feb. 22.
Registration for GlobusWORLD will open in January. Keep an eye on globusworld.org for further updates, and feel free to email the Globus Team with any questions.
