Introduction to the LRZ Supercomputing & Machine Learning Infrastructure

In this introductory course we will give an overview of the hardware and software services provided by the Leibniz Supercomputing Center (LRZ) with a focus on supercomputing (HPC) as well as machine learning (ML) applications.
The course opens with a (optional) introduction to GNU/Linux and a how-to of working with remote machines. The subsequent combination of lectures, demo and hands-on sessions provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently utilize the LRZ supercomputing and cloud infrastructure for their own projects.

0900-1000 Lecture and Hands-on: Introduction to GNU/Linux

1000-1100 Lecture and Hands-on: Using SSH to Log into Remote Machines

1100-1230 Lecture: Overview of LRZ HPC & ML Resources

1330-1530 Lecture and Hands-on: HPC Systems

1530-1730 Lecture and Demo: Cloud Services
1730-1800 Wrap-up

Participants with good prior knowledge and experience in GNU/Linux and SSH may skip the first part of the course and join at 1100am (please inform Dr. Johannes Albert-von der Gönna if you registered for the course and plan to join late).

Prerequisites:

All participants are expected to bring their own laptops.
