Czech-Bavarian Competence Team for Supercomputing Applications (CzeBaCCA)
CzeBaCCA is the Czech-Bavarian Competence Team for Supercomputing Applications. With the next generation of supercomputers coming up by the early 2020ies, it is imperative to optimise simulation codes and at the same time to start training domain scientists. Only that way, it will be possible to best exploit the upcoming high performance systems capable of 1018 floating-point operations per second.
The recently inaugurated Czech supercomputer SALOMON serves as a perfect role model for such training and optimisation efforts since it is the biggest Intel Xeon Phi based system currently operating in Europe.
The aim of the initiative is threefold:
- to establish well-trained supercomputing communities,
- to improve simulation software and,
- to foster the Czech-German collaboration in simulation supercomputing.
Besides their joint research programme around simulation software and tools for Salomon, TUM will organise a series of scientific workshops on topics like optimisation of simulation codes, and LRZ will offer a training program specifically designed for Intel Xeon Phi based systems.
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
