Tag der offenen Tür am LRZ

Aus organisatorischen Gründen mussten wir die Anmeldung für unsere Führungen am 01. Oktober Abends schließen. Die Registrierungslinks funktionieren also nicht mehr. Es wird am Tag der offenen Tür selbst Plätze geben in Erwachsenen-Touren und in wenigen Kids-Führungen. Diese werden wir nach dem "First come, first served" Prinzip verteilen. Wir freuen uns über alle, die uns morgen besuchen kommen und versuchen so viele Gäste wie möglich spontan unterzubringen. Das offene Programm können Sie natürlich jederzeit besuchen (siehe unten). Für die Rechenzentrumsführung besteht Ausweispflicht für Erwachsene.

For organizational reasons we had to close the registration for our guided tours on 01 October in the evening. The registration links will therefore no longer work. However, we will offer places on the Open House Day, Oct 3, itself . Spots are available for adult tours and a few kids' tours. These will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. We look forward to welcoming everyone who comes to visit us tomorrow and will try to accommodate as many guests as possible spontaneously. You can of course visit the openly accessible program at any time (see for more info below). You will have to show your ID to enter data centre tours.

Von Super- über Quantencomputing bis hin zu virtuellen Welten

Leistungsstarke Supercomputer und zuverlässige IT-Dienstleistungen für die Wissenschaft: Dafür steht das Leibniz-Rechenzentrums (LRZ) seit mehr als 60 Jahren. Am 3. Oktober 2024, dem Entdecker-Tag am Forschungscampus Garching, öffnen wir die Türen: für die Maus und unsere jüngsten Gäste, aber natürlich auch für große IT-Enthusiasten. Neben dem bekannten SuperMUC-NG – mit seinen 311.040 Rechenknoten ist er einer der schnellsten Supercomputer Europas – zeigen wir noch mehr Hochleistungsrechner. Außerdem könnt ihr einen ersten Quantencomputer entdecken, die riesigen Speicheranlagen und Datenbibliotheken des LRZ anschauen und kraftvolle KI-Systeme kennenlernen.

Überraschende Simulationen und beeindruckende Visualisierungen in 3D erlebt ihr in unserem Zentrum für Virtuelle Realität und Visualisierung (V2C). Die Demo-Beispiele veranschaulichen unser Universum, zeigen digitale Kunstschätze oder versetzen euch in eine alt-babylonischen Villa, wo ihr sehen könnt, wie Menschen vor rund 4000 Jahren lebten.

Gemeinsam mit unseren Freunden und Partnern vom Munich Quantum Valley (MQV) und der Open Search Foundation (OSF) bieten wir euch außerdem ein abwechslungsreiches, spannendes Rahmenprogramm: Spielt, ratet, tüftelt, forscht. Malt mit uns oder hört aufmerksam zu!

Entdecken, checken, wissen: unsere LRZ-Führungen

Öffnen sich LRZ-Türen für die Maus, sind Klein und Groß herzlich willkommen: Sehr gerne zeigen wir euch unsere Hoch- und Höchstleistungscomputer in verschiedenen Führungen.

Für alle Führungen und Demo-Sessions im V2C empfehlen wir eine Anmeldung. Bitte beachtet dazu die FAQ unten: Dort findet ihr viele hilfreiche Tipps, mit denen ihr den 3. Oktober besser planen könnt (es gibt ja viel zum Sehen und Erleben am Forschungscampous). Pro Kategorie gibt es einen eigenen Registrierungslink (siehe unten), alle Kategorien auf einmal seht Ihr hier:

Führungen für Kids durch den Rechnerwürfel

• Ihr seid etwa eine Stunde mit unseren Guides unterwegs – davon ca 30 bis 40 Minunten im Rechnerwürfel, dem Standort unserer großen Supercomputer. Anschließend geht's zu einer Überraschung für euch in der Kids-Area.
• Kinder ab 8 Jahren sind herzlich Willkommen in der "Eltern-freien Führung"
• Grundsätzlich eignet sich die Tour für Kinder ab 6 Jahren, dann gern in Begleitung von einem Elternteil
• Wenige Plätze werden auch direkt am 3. Oktober verfügbar sein. Wer einen  Platz sicher haben möchte, lieber vorab buchen.

Führungen für Erwachsene durch den Rechnerwürfel

• Die Tour dauert eine Stunde und führt zu unseren speziellen Schätzchen: SuperMUC & Co, gigantische Speichersysteme und innovative, hochmoderne KI- und Quantencomputer.
• Hier seid ihr richtig, wenn ihr 14 Jahre und älter seid
• Ihr solltet gut zu Fuß sein, die Tour ist nicht zu 100 Prozent barrierefrei
• Wir bieten diese Touren in Deutsch und Englisch an
• Wir werden am 03. Oktober noch Restplätze vergeben können, aber nach dem first come, first served Prinzip.

Forschung zum Angucken im Zentrum für Virtuelle Realität und Visualisierung am LRZ (V2C)

• Die einzelnen Demo-Sessions dauern etwa 1 Stunde.
• Sie eignen sich für Kinder ab 5 Jahren. 
• Wir lassen Kleine und Große zusammen schauen – die LRZ-Guides orientieren sich für ihre Erklärungen am Durschnittsalter. Tolle Bilder und Ansichten sind garantiert, aber manches wird vielleicht kindgerecht erklärt wie in der Sendung mit der Maus.
• Die Demo-Sessions sind nur mit Anmeldung möglich. Vor Ort wird es höchstens Nachrücker-Plätze geben.

Spielen, schauen, staunen: Unser freies Angebot

Wer sich nicht für Führungen, Demo-Sessions oder Forschungs-Kintopp interessiert (oder keinen Platz ergattert hat), ist trotzdem herzlich willkommen am LRZ und kann in unserem Hörsaal-Trakt rechts neben dem Eingang eine ganze Menge spannender Dinge und Themen entdecken. Auf geht’s: Zusammen mit dem Munich Quantum Valley und der Open Search Foundation (OSF), die sich für neue Internet-Suchdienste, Transparenz und Datenschutz stark macht, haben wir ein vielfältiges Programm zum Spielen, Schauen und Staunen für Kinder und Erwachsene zusammengestellt:

Für unsere jungen Gäste

• Findet heraus, wie euer PC zu Hause von innen aussieht – ihr dürft gemeinsam mit unseren Expertinnen Computer auseinandernehmen und wieder zusammenbauen
• Geht mit der OSF spielerisch den Geheimnissen von Such-Algorithmen auf den Grund
• Probiert euch beim Programmieren mit Scratch und natürlich der Maus aus (das können auch Einsteigerinnen)
• Gestaltet euren LRZ-Erinnerungsbeutel mit einem SuperMUC in tollen Farben und werdet kreativ beim Button-Basteln
• Entdeckt, wie leicht ihr selbst für eure Sicherheit im Internet sorgen könnt.

Für Jugendliche und Erwachsene

• Experimentiert mit Quanten und Qubits und entdeckt, was im Munich Quantum Valley in Sachen innovativer Computer-technik so läuft
• Lasst euch von spannenden Themen und Vorträgen zu den Themen Forschung, IT, Zukunft und Datenschutz inspirieren

Vorträge: Was ihr schon immer über Supercomputing wissen wollltet

Die Vorträge von Wissenschaftlerinnen und LRZ-Spezialistinnen starten immer zur vollen Stunde im LRZ Hörsaal: Ihr könnt herausfinden, wie Supercomputing funktioniert, wie virtuelle Realität entsteht, wie Suchmaschinen arbeiten, warum im Barock auch die Decken bemalt wurden oder warum Quantencomputer ganz anders rechnen als wir das kennen. Jeder Vortrag dauert etwa 30 Minuten, danach könnt noch Fragen stellen oder Ideen diskutieren.

Türen auf am Forschungscampus Garching

Das LRZ ist nicht das einzige Forschungsinstitut, das Kinder und Erwachsene hinter die Kulissen schauen und experimentieren lässt. Auf dem Forschungscampus Garching öffnen über 30 Einrichtungen ihre Türen für euch und die Maus. Schaut zu, probiert aus, lernt und versteht: Was ihr während des Entdecker- und Maustags am Forschungscampus Garching alles erleben könnt und dazu noch einen Stadtplan findet ihr auf der Webseite des Forschungscampus.

1. Ist es möglich, das LRZ ohne Tour zu besichtigen? Ja und nein. In Erdgeschoss nahe des Eingangs bieten wir euch ein Vortragsprogramm, die Kids-Area und die Ausstellungsstände von MQV und OSF. Hier könnt ihr jederzeit vorbeikommen und mitmachen. Das Rechnergebäude und das Visualisierungszentrum V2C können NICHT auf eigene Faust erkundet werden. Es handelt sich hier um Sicherheitsbereiche, die Besucherinnen daher nur mit Führung anschauen dürfen.
2. Wo melde ich mich für Führungen an? Über unsere Seite auf Evenoo hier
3. Muss ich mich für Führungen anmelden? Wir werden am Tag selbst wenige Plätze vor Ort belegen können. Wer auf der sicheren Seite sein will, unbedingt anmelden.
   
4. Muss ich alle Teilnehmenden einer Führung einzeln anmelden? Ja, aufgrund unserer Sicherheitsrichtlinien benötigen wir die Vor- und Nachnamen von allen, die bei unseren Touren vor Ort sind. Die Daten werden selbstverständlich nach der Veranstaltung wieder gelöscht
5. Muss ich für jedes Ticket eine neue Anmeldung starten? Nein. Mit unserem Veranstaltungstool können bis zu 4 Anmeldungen pro Person erfolgen. Wir benötigen aber von allen Teilnehmenden die Vor- und Nachnamen. Zum Anmelden ist nur eine Email notwendig.
6. Kann ich mein(e) Tickets stornieren? Ja, das geht. Die Bestätigungsmail enthält einen Stornolink.
7. Für welches Alter eigenen sich die Kids-Touren? Die Touren im Rechnergebäude sind für Kinder von 6 bis 12/13 Jahren ideal. Die Demos im V2C eigenen sich grundsätzlich ab 5 Jahren.
8. Dürfen Eltern bei den Kinder-Führungen mitmachen? Für Kids unter 8 Jahren empfehlen wir die Teilnahme EINES Elternteils, natürlich auch für Kinder, die Unterstützung benötigen. Ältere (und natürlich auch jüngere, selbstsichere) Kids kommen gern allein mit. Wir bitten um Verständnis: Wir können nicht so viele Führungen für Kinder wie für Erwachsene anbieten, bitte überlasst daher die Plätze den Kindern und geht als Elternteil nur mit, wenn das wirklich nötig ist. 9. Sind die Touren barrierefrei? Die Demos im V2C sind mit Rollator und Rollstuhl gut erreichbar. Für die Touren im Rechnergebäude sollten Besucherinnen gut zu Fuß sein. Die Wege zu den Super- und Quantencomputern können sich längen ;-)

Open House at the LRZ: From super to quantum computing and virtual worlds

Powerful supercomputers and reliable IT services for science: this is what the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) has stood for for more than 60 years. On October 3, 2024, we will open the doors: for our youngest guests, but of course also for big IT enthusiasts as part of the campus-wide Open House Day. In addition to the well-known SuperMUC-NG - with its 311,040 computing nodes, it is one of the fastest supercomputers in Europe - we will be showcasing even more high-performance computers. You can also discover the first quantum computer, take a look at the huge storage facilities and data libraries at the LRZ and get to know powerful AI systems.

Surprising simulations and impressive visualizations in 3D can be experienced in our Centre for Virtual Reality and Visualization (V2C). The demos illustrate our universe, show digital art treasures or let you immerse yourself in the reconstruction of an ancient Babylonian villa and show you how people lived at that time.

Together with our friends and partners from Munich Quantum Valley (MQV) and the Open Search Foundation (OSF), we also offer you a programme, that is freely accessible and will answer lots of questions around quantum computing and search engines.

When the LRZ doors open, young and old alike are very welcome: We offer various guided tours, namely:

Guided tours for kids in the computer building

• You will spend 1 hour with our guides - 30 to 40 minutes of which will be spent in the computer building. Afterwards we have a surprise for you in the Kids Area.
• Kids aged 8 and over are welcome in the “parent-free zone”
• The tour is generally suitable for kids aged 6 and over, accompanied by 1 adult
• The kids tours are only available with registration! There may be a few places available on the day itself

Guided tours for adults in the computer building

• The tour lasts 1 hour and takes you to our crown jewels: SuperMUC & Co, gigantic storage systems and innovative new AI and quantum computers
• This is the right place for you if you are 14 years and older
• You should be able to walk well, the tour is not 100% barrier-free
• We offer tours in German and English
• In principle, the tour is with registration, but we try to be flexible on the day itself to accommodate latecomers and perhaps offer one or two special tours (first come, first served and only according to the availability of our guides)

• The demo sessions last 1 hour
• Here you are right from 5 years upwards.
• Our guides are based on the average age. So don't hold it against them if you feel like you're watching a TV show with the mouse

Lecture Programme

Our lecture programme always takes place at the LRZ Hörsaal on the hour. Our experts will equip you with knowledge on topics such as supercomputing, virtual reality, search engines, quantum computing and even digital artworks. The lectures last about 30 minutes, during which you will of course have the opportunity to ask all your questions on the topic.

Open doors at the Research Campus Garching on “Mouse Day”

The LRZ is not the only research institute that lets children and adults look behind the scenes and experiment. There's even more to see, learn and understand at over 30 facilities on campus: All information and details can be found on the website of the research campus.

FAQ

1. Is it possible to visit the LRZ without a tour? Yes and no. On the first floor near the entrance we offer you a lecture program, the Kids Area and the exhibition stands of MQV and OSF. You are welcome to drop by at any time. The compute building and the visualization center can NOT be explored on your own. These are security areas.
2. Where do I register for guided tours? Via our page on Evenoo here
3. Do I have to register? We will have few places available on-site. If you want your spot secured, better register in advance.
4. Do I have to register all participants individually? Yes, due to our safety guidelines, we need the first and last names of everyone who is on site for our tours. The data will of course be deleted after the event.
5. Do I have to start a new registration for each ticket? No. Our event tool allows up to 5 registrations per person - regardless of whether you want to register for 5 different people or for different tours. However, we need the first and last names of all participants. Only one registration email is required.
6. Can I cancel my ticket(s)? Yes, you can. You should find a cancelation link in the confirmation email.
7. What age are the kids tours suitable for? The tours in the computer building are ideal for children aged 6 to 12 / 13. The demos in the V2C are generally suitable from the age of 5.
8. Can parents take part in the children's tours? For kids under 8 we recommend that parents take part, and of course for children who need support. Older (and of course very confident) children are welcome to come on their own. We also ask for your understanding here: unfortunately, we cannot offer as many places for children as we can for adults. We and many kids would be delighted if you would leave the places on the children's tours to the kids.
9. Are the tours barrier-free? The demos in the V2C are easily accessible with a walker or wheelchair, for example. For the tours in the compute building, however, you should be able to walk well. The paths to the crown jewels are long ;-)
