Komplette Simulation des Schnupfenvirus
Viren sind die größte Herausforderung der modernen Medizin und Gegenstand aktueller Forschung. Ein besonders interessantes Virus ist der Schnupfenvirus (Human Rhinovirus). Der Göttinger Biophysiker Helmut Grubmüller hat als erster die Hülle dieses Virus auf molekularer Ebene komplett im Computer simuliert und kann jetzt unter anderem Vorhersagen über physikalische Eigenschaften des Virus machen. Damit wird eine völlig neue Herangehensweise in der Pharmakologie möglich.

Helmut Grubmüller, biophysicist in Göttingen, has fort the first time simulated the whole virus capsid at the atomic level, which enables to predict the physical properties of the virus. This knowledge opens up new pharmaceutical approaches.
